HISTORY
CHAINSAWING AND CARPENTRY
1976-1983
I started chainsawing firewood and brush clearing at age 12, and worked for 2 different construction companies during high-school building houses from the ground up, mostly working on foundations, framing, and roofing.
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE, U.C. BERKELEY
1983-1988
President of the Mining Association, salutatorian, finished with a 3.77 GPA in mineral engineering which focused on geotechnical mineral exploration, mine design and planning, and mineral processing primarily.
COMPUTER PROGRAMMER
1987-1988
Worked for the USDA PSW research station coding and developing a 5000 line FORTRAN program designed to convert 70,000 records/day into usable regression deviation graphs for quality control monitoring. Compiled the program from a DataFrame mainframe computer for use on an IBM mainframe, Burroughs mainframe and a MacIntosh personal computer.
ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER
1988-1992
I worked for clients such as I.B.M., Xerox Corp., Mobile Corp. and many others doing hydrogeology, soil and groundwater sampling, and writing reports. I did a lot of industrial plumbing as well.
LANDSCAPING AND CARPENTRY
1994-2004
I lived in Hawaii for these 10 years, built my first solar system, and spent my time mostly propagating exotic fruit trees and exotic ornamental plants. I did lots of landscaping (machete and chainsaw mostly) and carpentry as well.
SOLAR AND OTHER
2005-present
I've designed and built more solar systems, have lived off-grid, on solar for 22 years now. I've done land management, carpentry, plumbing work. Most recently I completed a mold remediation project and worked on flood prevention to prevent future mold issues. I like to optimize systems as well as find and implement permanent solutions.
